New Net & Equipment Campaign Success!

What an incredible journey.

When we started this campaign, we set out to raise $10,000 for a new flying trapeze net. Two months later, our amazing community - YOU - helped raise $25,123 for not only a new net, but other vital equipment and building upgrades too.

Because of your generosity, we can install and maintain a new flying trapeze net, the only permanent one in San Francisco. We can purchase other important training equipment like hoops, trapezes, and mats. We can make needed building repairs.

But it's not just about the stuff. It's about what the stuff makes possible - incredible circus training from our world-renowned teachers; low-cost, professional-quality performances for our community; unique private events; and a vibrant training ground for the next generation of circus artists. And you help make it happen.

A special thanks to the following Rigger and Catcher-level supporters
of the New Net & Equipment Campaign:

Brad Post, Cameron Hempstead, Cameron Smith, Donald Robertson, Eric & Sue Johnston, Erin Cooney, Gabriel Wasserman, Jonas Sicking & Zan Armstrong, Kim Probst, Leonardo Harris, Robert Belmont, Robert Zivnuska, Shale Lewis, and our Anonymous Donors

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for helping us fulfill our mission, and for being a part of the Circus Center family.

Keep an eye on our newsletter for updates on when we get our new flying trapeze net, equipment, and more so you can see your generosity in action!

Help Us Get a New Flying Trapeze Net!

On May 7th, we launched a $10,000 fundraising campaign for a new flying trapeze net!

Why now?
Thousands of people of all ages have flown on our trapeze, the only permanent one in San Francisco. This rig has been with us since the beginning and has shown a generation of people the joys of a quintessential circus art. You can even see the BATKID, Miles Scott, learning to fly on our trapeze in the recently released documentary Batkid Begins!

But like all equipment, nets need to be replaced eventually. Now the time has come for the current net to retire in glory, and a new net to be installed for the next cohort of adventurous flyers. And we need your support!

Why $10,000?
$10,000 will replace our flying trapeze net (a very specialized piece of equipment), cover the cost of installation, and pay for its maintenance and repair for two years. Any amount raised past that goal goes to further years of maintenance.

Why give?
A new net is essential for Circus Center's future. We can't have flying classes, parties, or shows without an up-to-date net. Without it, we'd be missing a vital part of our identity as a historic American circus hub.

With your donation today, you become a tangible part of Circus Center's future. Not only that, you can take a piece of the past home with you!

When you make a donation of $100 or more, you can take home a piece of the old net: your own symbol of the wonder our net has made possible.

Our aim is to have the new net installed by this August, ready to wow our community for the Fall Session and the American Circus Educators Conference, which we are hosting in October.

By supporting our new net and guaranteed maintenance for the next few years, you're helping Circus Center continue to share the magic of circus with thousands of children, youth and adults for years to come.

Please join our campaign today. Thank you!

Spring 2016 Showcase: Call for Performers

This spring, Circus Center will produce a showcase featuring performances by our adult students. The showcases will be presented:
  • Saturday, May 7, 7:30 pm
  • Sunday, May 8, 3:00 pm
We envision something informal, but nicely produced: the space will have a full lighting and sound set-up, and performers are asked to put some effort into your costumes and makeup. A member of the Circus Center staff will serve as Emcee. We will design and print flyers, postcards, and programs, and we will do our usual promotional activities online and elsewhere. We will NOT take reservations in advance, and it will be $10 per person at the door.

Flying trapeze students will work with Jennings and the other flying instructors to put together the flying portion of the show. We will take 6-8 additional acts. Other students who are interested in performing in one of these slots should fill out this form (one form per act, not per performer). Our goal is to produce a well-balanced show (not too many performers on any single apparatus) with students who are ready to perform (based on what your Circus Center teachers tell us). So fill out this form as soon as possible, and no later than March 18.

Relevant dates and times for performers:
  • March 18: Performer Applications DUE
  • March 21: Cast Notified
  • April 10-16: Performers must either submit a video of their act IN COSTUME or arrange a time to show it to Barry. Acts deemed unready for public performance at this time may be cut from the show.
  • May 1: Tech/Dress Rehearsal. 5p Call, 6p Start
  • May 7: SHOW. 5p Call, 7:30p Start
  • May 8: SHOW. 1p Call, 3p Show
Questions? Email Barry at barry@circuscenter.org. Want to apply? Fill out this form!

5.       I referred a friend, but I don’t see the points in my account.  Why not?

Referrals do not earn points until they are complete. Complete referrals mean that your friends must purchase a class before you earn points for the referral.

6.       I am having trouble referring a friend.  How do I do it?

Go online to http://www.perkville.com/biz/7441/. Log in. Under the “Earning Points” box, marked with a blue piggy bank in the upper left corner, there is a link that says “refer a friend.” Click on the link. It will take you to a page where you can enter your friend’s contact information and insert a note if you choose. It also gives you the option to share via FaceBook or Twitter. Hit “Send,” the green button at the bottom of the page, to make sure your referrals are sent.
